Some days, motherhood feels like a marathon you didn't train for.
The kids need something every five minutes. The laundry is piling up. Dinner needs to be planned. Your phone won't stop buzzing. And somehow, you're expected to keep everything running smoothly while holding yourself together.
If you've been feeling overwhelmed lately, I want you to know something:
You do not need an entire weekend away to feel better.
Sometimes, you just need five minutes.
Why Moms Stay Stuck in Survival Mode
Many moms spend so much time taking care of everyone else that they never give themselves a moment to reset.
The result?
-
Mental exhaustion
-
Irritability
-
Overstimulation
-
Anxiety
-
Mom guilt
-
Feeling disconnected from yourself
When your nervous system never gets a break, even small tasks can start to feel overwhelming.
That's why having a simple reset routine can make such a difference.
The 5-Minute Reset
The next time you feel yourself reaching your limit, try this:
Minute 1: Pause
Stop what you're doing for just one minute.
Put down your phone.
Step away from the dishes.
Sit down if possible.
Give yourself permission to pause.
Minute 2: Breathe
Take five slow, deep breaths.
Breathe in through your nose.
Breathe out slowly through your mouth.
Focus only on your breathing.
Nothing else.
Minute 3: Ground Yourself
Look around and identify:
-
5 things you can see
-
4 things you can touch
-
3 things you can hear
-
2 things you can smell
-
1 thing you can taste
This simple grounding exercise helps bring your mind back to the present moment.
Minute 4: Check In
Ask yourself:
"What do I need right now?"
Not tomorrow.
Not next week.
Right now.
Maybe it's water.
Maybe it's food.
Maybe it's fresh air.
Maybe it's simply five more minutes of quiet.
Minute 5: Choose One Small Next Step
Instead of thinking about everything that needs to be done, choose one thing.
Just one.
Fold one basket.
Answer one email.
Wash one sink of dishes.
Small steps create momentum.
Progress Over Perfection
Motherhood isn't about doing everything perfectly.
It's about showing up day after day while caring for yourself, too.
You don't need a perfect routine.
You don't need a spotless house.
You don't need to have it all figured out.
You simply need small moments of care that help you keep going.
Five minutes may not solve everything.
But it can help you breathe, reset, and remember that you matter too.
And sometimes, that's exactly what an overwhelmed mom needs.
With love,
